MISSION TRIP FUNDING

Glen Mar is firmly committed to praising God, growing disciples, and serving the world by sponsoring mission trips to both domestic and international destinations. We also believe that celebrating God's call to serve the world by participating in one of Glen Mar's mission trips should not be hindered by a shortage of financial resources.

To this end, Glen Mar makes available a Mission Trip Scholarship Fund for both youth and adults for whom the cost of participating in a mission trip would be a hardship. Interested youth and adults can download and complete a Mission Trip Scholarship Fund form (pdf).

To fund the Mission Trip Scholarships and also supplement the overall mission trip budget, Glen Mar utilizes a variety of resources that generate "free" cash. Glen Mar's gift card program, one of the extreme fundraising programs which generate "free" cash, supports mission trips in several ways.

Individuals and families can designate up to half of the proceeds generated from their gift card purchases to be applied to offset the costs to participate in Glen Mar mission trips, Volunteer In Mission trips (VIM), and Youth On A Mission trips (YOAM). The remainder of the profits support scholarships for these same trips, plus many other ministries, including local, national, and international programs.

All mission trip participants are strongly urged to support various mission trip fundraisers. Participant fees do not cover the total costs of the trips, which include chaperon registration, vehicle rental and fuel. Solid fundraising effort is required to cover the approximately $15,000 in unbudgeted expenses.

Youth and adults can also participate in work programs like the Green Team. Church members make a bid for yard work or odd jobs and the money paid goes directly to a youth's mission trip account. Most jobs take place on Saturday mornings or weeknight evenings. The average job pays about $50 for a few hours work. Adults who need work done, and youth and adults who wish to participate should contact Sue Cooper at 410.461.4599, suetcooper@verizon.net or D.C. Veale at 410.465.4995 ext. 205, DC.Veale@glenmarumc.org.
