MEALS FOR GRASSROOTS MINISTRY

The Meals for Grassroots ministry serves the homeless staying at the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, Howard County's only general emergency shelter, located at 6700 Freetown Road in Columbia, MD, 21044.

Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center

Glen Mar provides the dinner entree (meatloaf) and drinks for all shelter residents (currently 55-60) on the 4th Tuesday of every month. We typically split the task among four volunteers. Occasionally, a small group or scout troop will provide everything for a particular month as a service project.

Drop off is any time that day prior to 5 p.m. (3 p.m. if the meatloaves need to be re-heated). Total commitment time each month is about 3 hours, including shopping, preparing the meatloaves and dropping the food and drinks off. You can sign up for one time, every month, or anything in between.

Minimum Volunteer Age: Youth with an adult supervisor, or older children helping parents with the shopping, cooking and delivery. This is a great service project for Confirmands and their Friend in Faith or parents, or for families.

Upcoming Volunteer Dates: 4th Tuesdays of every month: Apr. 24, May 22, Jun 26, Jul. 24, Aug. 28, Sep. 25, Oct. 23, Nov. 27, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day - special menu).
